Beer of the Week #11: Low Dome Citrus Wheat

I don't often think of my health when beer-shopping/drinking, and the mention of any low-calorie beer usually makes me shudder, as I haven't had one yet that doesn't taste like, well, beer-water. I'm happy to say, the exception has finally come along, with Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company's Low Dome Citrus Wheat. At 4.0% AVB and only 90 calories, it's a refreshing, low calorie beer that's still incredibly flavorful.

First things first: Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company is found in the city of Fresno, California--on the doorstep of some classic Sierra Nevada national parks: Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon. In fact, many of it's beers are named after locales from these, parks, including Low Dome Citrus Wheat--a reference to the lower portion of the hike to the top of Yosemite's Half Dome. Their tap room is found in downtown Fresno, and it's a great place to grab a drink or two and stock up on beer and merch the night before you head into one of the nearby parks--that's what we did anyways.

Low Dome is definitely not a heavy beer, but it's not super-light either--it doesn't have that watered-down taste that so many low-calorie beers usually do. It's the perfect beer to drink after a long, hot day of hiking: it's a refreshing, citrusy (blood orange), zesty, tangy, mildly hazy wheat beer that's easy drinking with a respectable body and flavor. Grab a pack to go from California markets, or even in the national parks themselves: they all carry Tioga-Sequoia beer. The best thing you can do though is head to their taproom in downtown Fresno and sample Low Dome, along with some of their other fantastic flavors in their beer garden--you won't be disappointed.

Oh, and if you are interested in any of the national parks near Tioga-Sequoia, feel free to check out my guides to Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon. Cheers!
